SEO and Social Media in 2009

As we begin the new year, 2009 is shaping up to be a watershed year for Search Engine Optimization.  SEO, as it is commonly referred, is evolving in several key ways that will quickly draw a dividing line between the strong (Professional Marketers) and the weak (Wannabees who took a class or attended a seminar).

First up is Google, and it’s new wave of algorithm updates that now deliver more penalizing of even marginal spam content sites and duplicated efforts. It is now apparent that link sites and free-for-all business directory listings are banned outright in a matter of days, and reciprocal links are even more suspect. So called SEO firms who still specialize in these methods are now shedding customers faster than a snow-dog in the summer sun.

Secondly, technology marches on. Social Media mainstays such as  Facebook, LinkedIn, Merchant Circle and others have advanced their technology to eliminate all methods of auto-posting and multiple user creation scripting. While this has gone un-noticed by the average user, it has effectively eliminated an entire industry of black hat operators who used these methods to artificially generate SEO advantage. Look to others such as Yelp, Google Maps, and Yahoo Reviews to follow suite in short order.

Others have noticed this trend as well, such as 10e20, Matt Cutts, Marc King. We here at Best Price SEO welcome the new era in SEO management and take pride in having prepared our clients well in advance of these changes.

“By foreseeing these challenges well in advance and structuring our services to take full advantage of the coming web evolution, our clients emerge from these changes with even greater competitive advantage than before”. Says Marc King, CTO of Best Price SEO

In 2009, look for the much maligned SEO industry to deliver a major shake out of shady practitioners as the marginally proficient SEO programmers give way to the real marketing professionals as they rise to the top of the business food chain where they belong.
